Tartan is fabric, woven in a background colour supplemented by a pattern of thread lines, both horizontal and vertical, of different thicknesses and colours. The variations in these patterns is what makes each tartan unique.
Tartans are used to represent highland clans, military regiments, countries, cities, and organizations.
